National Book News Roundup

There are many sources to choose from if you're looking for news about the publishing industry. Here are a few that I look at regularly:

Traditional Media
Websites
  • EarlyWord - site/newsletter meant for librarians but a good source of what's new and hot
  • IndieNext - independent bookstores reviews and news
  • Shelf Awareness - website and newsletters, one aimed at independent bookstores, the other at readers

Today's book news

A quick search of Google News finds that Amazon has published it's 10 best books for 2013. I've only read one on the list. Hmmm...

Also in today's news, The New York Times Book Review published a Q&A with author Sherman Alexie. (I've not read him, either.)

With the success of the film adaption of Ender's Game, Orson Scott Card has announced he'll write more books in the series. USA Today published a blurb and link today to the 11/4 Los Angeles Times article. I read Ender's Game in the late 1980's and loved it. I also read some of the other books in the series but didn't like them as well. It's hard-core SF.

I've also discovered there are many sources collecting books news. I'll post the ones I like best tomorrow.

Read on!
